ANGEL TREE TAKES CENTER STAGE FOR CHRISTMAS

Sep 27, 2021

Christmas is in the air!

This Christmas, the community will be more invested in giving gifts to children in need with The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree, which allows people to adopt an “Angel” from a list of registered children to help make their Christmas wishes come true.

Angel Tree has both kids’ Christmas needs (socks, shoes) and wants (toys, games) that the adopter picks. Registration for children starts Oct. 1 and runs about a month.

The bare necessities lend a hand to parents’ need to take care of their children during the cold winter, in the season of togetherness.

Each Angel comes with his/her profile with personalized list for shopping, instead of picking from toys to give to kids. Those items are then sent to kids for distribution when the big day comes.

“This year, Angel Tree is taking center stage,” Lt. Col. Collette Webster, who oversees Angel Tree, said. “We’re not just giving kids what they want, but we’re helping the parents out too by giving the kids what they need.”

Col. Webster said, “Angel Tree is probably the biggest event that The Salvation Army does. Because we’re helping so many people, and we’re getting so many people in the community involved to help us do that. We want them to feel good. We want to let people know they’re helping people. I really believe in my heart that’s what people want to do. They really do want to help each other. They just don’t know how. This is an outlet for them to say, ‘Hey, I can help somebody that’s really in need, and I can do it through The Salvation Army and this program.’ We’re actually meeting a real need for a real person and helping to make their Christmas joyful and wonderful. That’s the beauty of Angel Tree.”
