Our Programs
Youth
Salvation Army youth programs are designed to help young people in Texas develop socially, intellectually and spiritually. Our desire is to see them grow into successful and responsible leaders in their communities. We want our youth to be intelligent individuals who set their educational goals high and pursue a college degree. We want our young people to encounter Jesus Christ and develop a closer relationship with Him. Some of our youth programs include:After-School Programs
Many of our locations provide daily after-school programs, ensuring a fun and safe learning environment for children. Our programs provide training in social skills, help with schoolwork and the opportunity to participate in a variety of physical activities.Boys and Girls Clubs
Across Texas, we have joined forces with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America for the betterment of our children. Through this partnership, we are able to provide a wider array of youth activities, which in turn means better programming and more effective mentoring for thousands of children. Youth athletic leagues can be very expensive for parents. League fees, uniforms and equipment can stretch a family’s budget to the breaking point. Because we believe these activities provide safe, wholesome recreation for children as an alternative to drugs, mischief and gang activity, we offer low-cost youth sports leagues, giving all children the opportunity to play basketball, football, baseball or soccer. We also provide all the necessary equipment, and some centers even provide uniforms.Scout-type programs
We have Scout-type programs for boys and girls, complete with character-building programs, training manuals and an exciting slate of activities. Girls participate in Sunbeams and Girl Guards. Boys participate in the Adventure Corps.Summer Day Camp
During the summer when school is out, Salvation Army Summer Day Camp programs to provide a place for children of working parents to go during the weekdays. While in our care, the children can participate in recreational activities such as sports and games as well as field trips to exciting places like the zoo or a water park. Educational components are available through computer labs, tutoring and mentoring. Many of the day-campers arrive at 7 a.m. and stay as late as 6 p.m. We provide nutritional meals and snacks in a safe environment. All of this is available for a reasonable fee. In some cases, scholarships are offered.Back to top
Impacting Lives
Nine year old Kalicia has been attending The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in Beaumont for about a year. When she came to the Army she was a very problematic child with a total disregard for authority. Kalicia had a “ME” complex and bullied other children, both at the club and at school. She became involved in two new programs at the club called Power Hour and S.M.A.R.T. Girls. Power Hour is a mandatory, one-hour homework and tutorial assistance program. S.M.A.R.T. Girls is a character-building program that teaches young women useful skills and proper values. Since joining these two programs, Kalicia has improved both in the classroom and social settings. She now shows more respect toward authority figures and interacts well with other club members.
