We operate two residential facilities, William and Catherine Booth, where older people can live in an atmosphere of love, acceptance and encouragement.
Since 1982, The Salvation Army has operated housing for low-income and elderly persons through a HUD contract. William Booth and Catherine Booth Garden Apartments are designed to provide homes to those who otherwise many not have a safe and accessible home.
William Booth Garden Apartments
Currently, William Booth Gardens is in operation at 601 Golden Rd and has 132 ground level accessible units on 13 beautifully landscaped acres. How can I help?
Transportation and pantry assistance remain as primary needs that must be met through support and volunteerism of our East Texas neighbors. Most often however, what is needed the most by these elderly residents is companionship and the validation of their value and worth as a person when so many have forgotten their existence. To volunteer contact Jennifer Barnes at (903)592-4361.
Loneliness is a serious problem in hospitals, convalescent and nursing homes, correctional institutions, veteran’s medical centers and children’s homes. To help alleviate the suffering of these individuals, The Salvation Army formed a visitation program called Community Care Ministries. Community Care Ministries connects volunteers, church members and The Salvation Army Officers with those who have special needs in hospitals and nursing homes as well as the homebound. Whether through a listening ear, a caring heart, a helping hand or a gentle touch, we let these people know that we love them and that God loves them, too.
If you would like to volunteer as part of the community care ministry, please call us 903.592.4361.
