Airline Miles

  • Donate Miles
  • United Airlines Charity Miles Program
  • Mileage Plus Miles

There is now another way to give to The Salvation Army. Through United Airlines Charity Miles Program, Mileage Plus members can donate accrued miles, enabling The Salvation Army to move personnel quickly in time of disaster, provide travel for those in need of emergency medical care outside of their area, and reduce administrative costs by providing travel for staff.

How it works:
1. Set up a United Airlines Mileage Plus account by contacting United at 1-800-421-4655.
2. Whenever you fly United Airlines or on a Star Alliance carrier, be sure to show them your United mileage card or inform them that you are a member. They will credit your miles to your account.
3. To make a minimum donation of 1,000 miles to The Salvation Army, call United at 800-421-4655 and request that your Mileage Plus miles be transferred into The Salvation Army’s account.

Family Thrift Stores

The Salvation Army Thrift Stores represent the heart of our ministry: simply put, to help others in their time of need.

Our Thrift Stores help us accomplish this by providing quality clothing, furniture and other goods to the community at bargain prices. The proceeds generated from these sales go to support the social service programs of The Salvation Army.

In the larger cities, such as Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio and Houston, the funds generated support our Adult Rehabilitation Centers, residential alcohol and drug treatment programs for men. In mid-size and small communities, the funds support Salvation Army daily operations and programs such as emergency rent, food and prescription assistance.

In addition, we often will provide a voucher to someone through our social services program, allowing the resident to access clothing, furniture and/or houseware at the Thrift Store at no cost. These vouchers may be offered to a homeless person who needs an outfit to wear to a funeral, to a single mom going to a job interview or to a family who lost everything in a fire or other disaster.

Help make lives better by donating your gently used items or by shopping at a Salvation Army Thrift Store near you. To find thrift store or to schedule a pickup, visit www.satruck.com.

Fulfill Your Olympic Dreams!

When the world gathers in Vancouver in February 2010 for the Winter Olympics, The Salvation Army will be there. And you can be, too; Salvation Army volunteers will conduct vital outreach before, during, and after the Games. The Salvation Army is part of a broad network of Christian denominations and parachurch agencies, called More Than Gold, planning outreach and service opportunities around the 2010 Winter Olympics. The Games create an unprecedented opportunity for the church to serve and share with visitors from around the globe. Opportunities include: sports camps and clinics, creative and performing arts concerts, family-friendly community festivals, warming and refreshment stations featuring The Salvation Army’s mobile canteens, big-screen viewings of major Games events, prayer gatherings, community clean-ups, expanded service to the homeless and a strengthened fight against human sex trafficking. If you have knitters, they can contribute hand-knit scarves which will be distributed to homeless people in Vancouver during the Games. Youth and adults can be part of mission teams moving across Canada starting October 2009 to support corps/centers doing Torch Relay Outreach, or they can join teams coming from across Canada to serve on-the-ground in Vancouver during the 2010 Games. The opportunities are endless! Are you game? To complete an individual volunteer application form – or find out how your church or other group can get involved – visit any of the links below. Applications must be received by October 1, 2009. Application Process and Forms are available online at: www.salvationist.ca www.sendthefire.ca/2010 www.cfot.ca bc.salvationarmy.ca
