Ready To Serve – There’s A New Major In Town
New Salvation Army Leaders Arrive In Amarillo
The Salvation Army is pleased to welcome new Corps Officers (church leaders), Majors Darvin and Betty Carpenter. They assumed their position on June 18 and have quickly settled into their new surroundings. Salvation Army Officers are periodically transferred to different locations, typically every 3-4 years. Majors Darvin and Betty Carpenter are enthusiastic and dynamic leaders who love serving others. The Majors come to Amarillo from Houston.
Major Darvin and Betty Carpenter became officers in 1969. They were active officers for 42 years, where they served in the USA Western Territory and the Australian Southern Territory. The Majors have served all over the world from California, Hawaii, Australia, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Texas. Some locations were served post-retirement, including Amarillo. They have served as leaders in various aspects of The Salvation Army. They worked at a Training College Facility (Salvation Army Seminar), Transitional Living Programs, Adult Day Care Centers, Overnight Shelters, Child Preschools, just to name a few.
“It has been exciting to meet the people of Amarillo and discover the opportunities for ministry here,” said Major Carpenter. “We see the need and are ready to serve the Amarillo community in ‘Doing The Most Good’ alongside the staff, volunteers, and supporters of The Salvation Army.”
“Many people don’t realize that The Salvation Army is a church,” said Major Carpenter. “We invite everyone to join us for Worship each Sunday at 11:00 AM, at The Salvation Army, located at 2101 S. Van Buren, here in Amarillo.” The couple is responsible for all church programs and social services at The Salvation Army including the – shelter, Family Store, Character Building programs, and the church. “We look forward to meeting you soon!”
